Thanks for visiting my site! I'm the author of JANEOLOGY (Kunati, 2008) and the upcoming middle-grade novel SURE SIGNS OF CRAZY (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2013).
Here's a little bit about me.
I live in Dallas, TX with my family and very literate dog.
All writers love their dogs, but how many have written stories about them?
I've been writing since I was in elementary school. (This girl thought her story about a horse named Betsy was awesome.)
Books have always had a special place in my life. My earliest favorite book was LITTLE WOMEN by Louisa May Alcott. Above all, I LOVE great characters. (Great characters who get to wear great shoes is a plus.)
When asked for writing advice, I often tell people that having boundless curiosity and asking questions is important. This is my daughter's notebook. She is a future novelist.
Keeping a notebook and writing down random thoughts, ideas and even unusual word combinations is essential. You never know where you will find unique (or gross) word combinations.
Always look to nature for the unusual. It is all around us. I found this strange daisy growing in my garden.
I don't like the overuse of the exclamation point or squirrels. Writing should generally exclaim all on it's own. My favorite writing teacher said you get two exclamation points per story, so use them wisely. (If you find more than two in my stories, don't tell my teacher.) As for squirrels, they chewed into my house. In the future, I'm sure a squirrel will meet an untimely demise in one of my stories. If you like squirrels, sorry. That's just how it must be.
I do love books, of course, music, eating outside, windy days in the park, the ocean, taking pictures, watching my kids climb trees and wearing a different sock on each foot. In fact, I encourage this fashion statement.
I also like turning books into purses.
This is a pirate holding my first book. It has nothing to do with anything. But if a pirate endorses your book, you should tell people.
